A Little Bit About Me

Lily reads, writes and dreams about gorgeous boys loving on each other.

Lily G. Blunt writes contemporary gay romance and erotica. She loves to explore the relationship between two men and the intensity of their physical and emotional attraction. Angst often features in her stories as she feels this demonstrates the depth of the men’s feelings for each other. Lily is forever writing imaginary scenes and plots in her head, but only a few ever make it to the page—there never seems to be enough hours in the day despite having left the teaching profession to concentrate on her writing!

Lily discovered the wonderful world of m/m romance novels four years ago via fan fiction and went on to write stories in her spare time. With the encouragement of her friends and readers she decided to publish some of her work.

Lily has several self-published stories available on Amazon. She is also published with Torquere Press and  Wayward Ink Publishing.

Easily distracted from her writing, Lily makes videos using clips from gay-themed movies and posts gorgeous pictures of men kissing or making out on her tumblr and Facebook pages. Lily is also an avid supporter of GLBTQ rights and advocates equality for all.

Lily lives in central England with her rather bemused husband, two twenty-something children, and a ‘mad as a bag of frogs’ Shetland Sheepdog.

INTERVIEW BY TEE BAGGINS (3rd December, 2012)

T: Today I’m interviewing m/m romance author and fanfic writer Lily G. Blunt. Lily, please tell us a little about yourself.
LB: I’m from the UK., married with two children in their twenties and was a primary school teacher for over 25 years. .
I mostly read m/m stories and Fanfiction. I’m a recent fan of Chrolli (Christian and Olli from Verbotene Liebe—a German soap) and have recently been asked to join the video team on the Christian and Oliver Fansite. Four of my Chrolli videos are on Youtube and I’m currently working on a Christmas video for the site.
I have two YouTube channels – one is Twilight/Rob Pattinson-based, the other is for boy on boy loving videos. I have a NSFW tumblr and a new author blog. Oh, and I’m also on Facebook in various guises.
T: A woman of mystery, eh? Since you have no author photo, we’ll have to assume you’re slim and beautiful, with perfect hair and violet eyes. That’s what I tell everyone about myself, anyhow. How did you get started writing?
LB: About three years ago, I became hooked on Twilight fanfiction. After I’d been reading it for about 8 months, and had recently ventured into slash, I suddenly had an idea for an Edward and Jake story. As I was on my summer break, I decided to have a go at writing a short story. I kept telling myself I was wasting my holiday, but I persevered and thoroughly enjoyed writing the first two chapters. I added chapter three a few weeks later, but didn’t get a chance to add chapter four for another few months. I have since deleted this story and edited it to remove the two het scenes. I contributed this new story—Heartbeat—to the recent Stand Up 4 Katalina cause, which I will post it in January on my fanfiction site (sue273).
As I was waking up a lot in the night, I started writing another story during my sleepless hours, which after much editing and almost two years later, has become A Darker Shade of Oxford Blue. I have written a variety of short stories as well as several multi-chaptered stories, some of which are still works in progress.
T: I love the title. Of course, I’m naughty at heart, so it makes me think of “Oxford style.” Check out the cover:

Lily, tell us more about A Darker Shade of Oxford Blue.
LB: A Darker Shade of Oxford Blue is my baby! It took me over eight months to write the original fanfiction version—mostly in the middle of the night or at weekends—although I did write other short stories and start a new multi-chaptered story during this time as well. I edited it several times over the course of a year or so, and then re-worked it again to produce my final version. Thanks to Jessica McKenna for editing and “Brit-picking’ my work. Apparently, I had her in stitches or totally confused her with some of my phrases.
I’m not sure where the my plot originally came from, but I remember thinking that as I’m from the UK, I couldn’t write a story which is set in the States as I have little background knowledge and I didn’t have time to research. So, most of the novel is set in Oxford, England, which I have visited many times over the years and often refer to real places I know in the story.
A Darker Shade of Oxford Blue is a sensual m/m novel which charts the developing relationship between the two main characters—Ethan Evans and Jason Birney. Their first encounter is at the airport and the story follows them until Jason returns to the States three weeks later. Ethan is successful in his business life—the reason for his temporary relocation to England—but up to this point he has been unlucky in love. This changes the moment he meets Jason (who has been asked to guest lecture at Oxford University), and as they spend their first weekend sightseeing around Oxford, it is obvious the two are destined to be together.
The chapters are filled with a mix of romance, drama and angst, as well as many detailed and sexually explicit scenes, as the two young men become lovers. As they get to know each other, it becomes apparent that they went to the same school for a short while and now live in the same city. Ethan cannot recall seeing Jason before, but as the story progresses, Ethan realizes their meeting in Oxford may not be a coincidence after all.
T: Sounds great! Any future projects you’d like to tease us with?
LB: I’m currently working on a number of m/m writing projects. I need to finish three fanfiction stories and, although I’m determined to complete them, my own fiction writing is taking precedence at the moment. I’ve been working on several different m/m stories, and they are all at varying stages of completion. My main focus for the past few weeks has been on a series of short stories set around the characters in a gay/bi porn studio. I’m about half way through writing the first story and work on it most days as I hope to complete it before Christmas. I have also written the first chapter of a polyamorous story, which involves four guys, but I probably won’t work on that again until after Christmas. There are also a number of other plots I have outline sketches for, one of them being inspired by the paintings of Van Gogh! When I first wrote A Darker Shade of Oxford Blue, I purposefully left a few things open to allow for a sequel, so one day I’ll eventually get on to that.
T: Awesome. Thanks again, Lily, for dropping by!
