Blue eyes narrowed, and when Graham was about to push him again, Josh’s hands darted out, fingers wrapping around his wrists. When he shoved, Graham stumbled back, landing against the hard wall of the shower. “Lemme go.” He huffed, twisting under Josh’s grasp.

“Only if you stop being an ass,” Josh shot back. His fingers flexed, tightening as he took a step closer. Eyes fixed on Graham.

“Pot meet fucking kettle,” Graham ground out dryly.

“God, you’re so frustrating.”

Mere inches apart now, Josh’s breath warm as blue and grey eyes connected. Tense silence crackled, electrifying the air between them. Josh’s eyes dropped to trembling lips. Graham took a breath but before he could tell Josh to not even think about it, Josh did it. He slammed forward, clashing their lips together. Graham’s wrists were still grasped in Josh’s strong fingers; hips forced back against the wall by the jock’s.

Graham bucked forward, trying to throw Josh off of him. He jerked his head back from the kiss. “Don’t.” He hated how breathy his voice sounded. Hated the way his cock started to stiffen. Hated how much he wanted Josh.

Soft lips brushed over his throat, warm breath tickling across his Adam’s apple. The kiss was far better than the last—and the first—time they’d kissed. Though he supposed they both had more experience now than when they were sixteen. “You want this.” Josh’s voice vibrated against his heated skin.

“N-No.” God, he did want it.

Josh chuckled low, husky. “Liar,” he murmured, dropping Graham’s wrists. He pulled back, a smug smirk spreading across his cheeks, exposing those too perfect dimples that made Josh want to punch him.

Graham didn’t move. Water soaked the back of his shirt, weighing down his pants. Blood rushed through his ears, heart pounding like a bird’s wings against his ribs, desperate to escape. The air between them was too thick to inhale, too loaded with testosterone that Graham held his breath, gaze skipping lower. A faint flush spread over the center of Josh’s chest, and a bulge, large and obvious, rose beneath his damp towel. “You are the biggest fucking asshole.”

Words barely managed to form before Graham launched towards Josh and reunited their lips in a smoldering kiss. Colliding desperately and with burning fervor, Graham’s hands scrambled to yank the towel down so he could grab both of the jock’s tight ass cheeks. Josh’s palm slapped against the wall next to Graham’s head, deepening the kiss. Reckless and oh, so fucking stupid.

 “So what if I do?” Ben screamed, even as Ben-on-the-couch cried. “So what if I want to leave? No one will care.”

The clock struck nine and the office faded away, to be replaced by... the office again. Ben sat up on the couch. Had he been sleeping? Dreaming? Regardless, it was true. He had known for a long time that none of it – bar or community or Jake – none of it really mattered.

“And that's where I come in,” said the smooth-bodied blond muscle hunk in glittery gold booty shorts that suddenly appeared at the foot of the couch. “I'm the Ghost of Pride Present, but that's a bit of a mouthful.” Ben couldn't help but glance down, at what was also a mouthful. Prince Adrian, the second born alpha son to the King of the North, frowned. As he stood near the throne where his father sat with his four brothers flanking him, his gaze bounced off the six omegas that had their foreheads pinned to the stone floor and their naked asses presented in the air.

He sighed quietly in disappointment. Not one of these omegas was his fated mate. The Selkie Seekers had gathered these males from good families all over the world, but none of the half dozen presented today belonged to him.

Rian—as his brothers liked to call him—glanced over at Luca who stood with his pup, Dylan, at the back of the Great Hall, bouncing the baby in his arms to keep him from fussing. He reminded himself that it had taken his oldest brother, Kai, several presentation ceremonies until he found his fated mate.

This was only Rian’s first. But still...

Unlike Kai, Rian had always preferred the Selkie traditions and he looked forward to finding his true mate and producing an heir. He was tired of rutting with the betas they had at their disposal. And to even think about rutting with a human...

He wrinkled his nose. His brothers may very well enjoy the sexual release the human males brought, but Rian refused to join them. He was a Selkie prince. He would rut only with another Selkie.

His eyes flicked back to Luca. Then he twisted his head and glanced over his shoulder at Kai. “Is Luca due to come into oestrus soon?”

Kai’s blue eyes narrowed as his gaze shot to his omega mate then back to Rian. “No.”

Rian inhaled deeply trying to pinpoint what the smell was and where it was coming from. “Do you smell that?”

Before any of his brothers could answer him, this father, the king, loudly pounded the end of his scepter onto the floor at his feet.

“Douglass! If Prince Adrian cannot identify any of these omegas as his fated mate, then let’s get this wrapped up.”

His father’s asshole assistant fluttered down the steps from where he’d been standing behind the king, and approached Rian.

Rian frowned at the weasel-faced beta servant. “What?”

“Has none of them caught your fancy, Your Highness?”

Rian let his gaze wander over the six naked males all bent over in a line. “None of these are my omega, Douglass. You may dismiss them all.” He tried to keep the disappointment out of his voice, but it was a struggle.

With a nod of his head and what curiously looked like a satisfied expression, Douglass clapped his hands, had the omegas rise to their feet, and herded them out of the Great Hall.

Rian couldn’t help but take one last look at the naked males. All were from acceptable families, all very handsome and some were even hung very well for an omega, but even if he was sexually interested in any of them, he was forbidden to rut with them.

Doing so could throw an omega into heat and with heat came pregnancy and then Rian would be stuck with an omega who was not his intended fated mate.

All for a quick dalliance.

Rutting for pleasure with an omega would also ruin the omega’s reputation. Omegas didn’t have to come to their mate with their corona membrane intact, but no matter what, they couldn’t rut with an alpha unless it was their mate. To do so was illegal and could mean imprisonment. Or worse, banishment.

His forehead is almost touching mine, our mouths millimeters from meeting. I want to pull away before I lose myself, but whatever my mind is saying my body is doing its own thing. My breath is fast and light, my head swimming with unspoken possibilities.

“Tell me about the ghost.” Evan tried to sound business-like. He hoped he didn’t look fidgety. He’d meant what he said about having Seth’s back. If Seth didn’t think Evan could handle himself, he wouldn’t trust him as his partner—on the job, or in bed.
“This whole area is lousy with historic houses,” Seth said, pausing to take a swig of his beer. “Sometimes, the dearly departed residents don’t want to move on. If they aren’t causing problems, that’s fine. But there’s an old mansion that’s been turned into a B&B. Apparently, it has a hell of a history…maybe for real. The ghost is strong enough to do real damage, and people are getting hurt.”
He toyed with the half-empty bottle. “At first, it was workmen doing renovations. A guy almost got killed when something winged a hammer at his head in an empty room. Luckily, he ducked.”
“He’s sure no one else could have been there?”
“The guy was working on the lock on the inside of the door, which was shut with his body blocking it from opening, and he says he was alone. The hammer put a hole right through the door.”
“Shit.”
Seth nodded. “Yeah. There’d been reports from some of the real estate agents who showed the place about being pushed on the stairs, having things fall near them. A lot of the agents refused to show the place, even though it had a nice price tag. The new owners thought it was all just stories and people’s imaginations until the husband got pushed out a second-floor window. There were witnesses. They said an invisible force threw him against the glass. He was my size.”
“Sweet baby Jesus. Did he die?”
“No, but he got very lucky. The workmen walked off the job—understandable. The new owners are stuck with a hefty mortgage, and they obviously can’t open to the public. The bank is afraid they’ll default and leave them on the hook for the property—again,” Seth added. “So apparently, someone in the bank went looking for a ghostbuster. Tried the local mediums and psychics—nothing wrong with that. For a low-level problem, it can work. But they weren’t successful.”
“Let me guess,” Evan chimed in. “Someone in Toby and Milo’s circles eventually heard about it—and here we are.”
“Yeah. That’s usually how it works. I’ve got a job to finish for a client, but it’ll probably only take me the morning to wrap up,” Seth replied. He’d been in computer ops in the Army and used those skills as a hunter to get into police databases and other locked down sites when need be. Toby had convinced Seth to establish himself as a “white hat” hacker, getting hired by companies to stress test their computer systems and keep out the riff-raff. It paid well and was a job he could do on the road, from anywhere.
If Evan could get his design and photography business off the ground, it would be a dream come true. He hadn’t been using his degree or following his heart working at Treddy’s bar. He’d found a shelter in the storm after he moved to the Richmond to escape a stalker, and never moved on. Now he had a real chance to do what he loved, with a man he loved. And in his spare time, risk his life to kill off supernatural predators most people didn’t believe even existed.
Then again, every job has its trade-offs, he thought, trying to convince himself he was up for it.
“What’s the plan? Just walking up and knocking on the door might not be a good idea,” Evan said. He’d spent four terrifying days running for his life from a faceless threat, only to walk right into the warlock’s trap and nearly become his latest sacrifice. Seth had tried back then to teach him the basics about supernatural self-defense, but Evan had to admit that his initial wariness and skepticism meant he hadn’t paid attention as closely as he should have.
“Still working on that part,” Seth admitted. “But I’ll come up with a plan.” His fingers brushed against Evan’s hand on the table. “So...” he let his voice trail seductively. Seth slipped his sock-clad foot up Evan’s inseam, gently kneading between his legs.
“I like how you think.”
“Did you have something in mind?” Seth asked, teasing.
Evan rose to his feet and moved sinuously to stand between Seth’s spread legs. “I don’t think I thanked you properly for your surprise,” he said with a wicked grin. He sank to his knees and began to nuzzle the inside of Seth’s thigh, letting his hot breath sink through the denim.
